Data & AI advisory/ Canada/ Public sector & enterprise

We recommend the right platform,
not our platform.

A Canadian boutique advisory for public sector organizations and enterprises deciding where data and AI workloads should live. No reseller margins, no partner quotas. The recommendation is the product, and we build what we recommend.

01What we do

Six disciplines, one governed estate

Advisory comes first. Everything we build flows from a recommendation we were willing to put in writing.

  • Data & AI Strategy

Roadmaps tied to business cases, not technology wish lists. Operating models, funding cases, and a sequence your board can hold you to.

  • Platform Modernization

Honest assessments and migration plans. We design coexistence architectures where each platform does what it is genuinely best at.

  • Data Engineering

Lakehouse and warehouse builds, medallion pipelines, batch and streaming ingestion. Engineered for handover, not dependency.

  • Analytics & BI

Semantic models people trust, reporting estates rationalized down to what gets used, and self-serve that finance will sign off on.

  • Data Science & ML

Use cases selected for value and feasibility, models shipped to production, and the discipline to keep them there.

  • Governance & Trust Runs through all of the above

Cataloging, lineage, access control, and data quality. Governance designed into the platform from the first pipeline, not bolted on for the audit.

02How we work

Assess, architect, deliver

Every engagement follows the same discipline, because skipping the first step is how estates end up with three platforms and no boundaries.

Weeks 1–6 · fixed fee

Assess

We inventory what you run, interview the people who run it, and price the cost of standing still. Written findings you keep either way.

Weeks 6–10

Architect

A target architecture with deliberate boundaries. Which workloads live where, what moves, what stays, and in what order.

Scoped by outcome

Deliver

A small senior team builds alongside yours. Every engagement ends with your people running the estate, documented and in control.

03Our view

The platform war is the wrong war

Vendors want you to pick a side. Most enterprises we meet already run more than one platform, and the honest answer is that they always will. Acquisitions, legacy estates, and team preferences guarantee it.

The real work is coexistence: deliberately designed boundaries, clear contracts between platforms, and one governed estate instead of three ungoverned ones. Fabric, Databricks, and Snowflake can each earn their place. None of them should win by default.

That is the war worth fighting, and it is an architecture problem, not a procurement problem. If you are in the middle of it, write to us.

04What you keep

Decisions, architecture, working systems

  • A defensible platform decision

Written reasoning, costs, and trade-offs on the record. When the board asks why, you have the answer.

  • Deliberate boundaries

Every workload has a home and a reason for being there. No accidental sprawl, no duplicate spend.

  • Governance from day one

Access, lineage, and quality designed in from the first pipeline. Auditors get answers, not meetings.

  • A team that can run it

We document as we build and hand over as we go. If you keep us around, it is by choice, not dependency.

05Working with us

Three ways to engage

Most clients start with the assessment, because it makes every decision after it cheaper.

Platform Assessment

The front door. We assess your estate, model the realistic options across platforms, and deliver a written recommendation with costs, risks, and sequence. You keep the findings either way. Fixed fee · 4–6 wks Request an assessment

Advisory Retainer

A senior advisor on call for architecture reviews, vendor negotiations, and the decisions in between. A standing second opinion that answers to you, not to a platform. Monthly Ask about retainers

Delivery Engagement

A small senior team that builds what the assessment recommends: pipelines, models, governance, BI. Staffed lean, documented as we go, handed over on purpose. Scoped by outcome Discuss a build

06Public sector

Built to be procured

We pursue public sector work at the federal, provincial, and municipal level, and we structure the firm so it is straightforward to buy from.

  • RFP-ready responses

We respond to RFPs, RFQs, and standing-offer opportunities with a clear methodology, named senior staff, and pricing that survives evaluation. The people in the proposal are the people on the engagement.

  • A Canadian supplier

D Data Solutions Limited is federally incorporated with Corporations Canada, Canadian-owned and Canadian-operated.

  • Data residency by design

We architect estates that keep data in Canadian regions and document where every workload runs. Residency is a design input, not an afterthought.

  • Accessible deliverables

Reports, dashboards, and applications designed to meet WCAG accessibility standards, because public sector work has to be usable by everyone.

  • Evaluation-friendly engagements

The fixed-fee Platform Assessment maps cleanly to procurement: defined scope, defined timeline, defined deliverables, findings you keep regardless of what follows.

07About

A boutique, on purpose

We started D Data Solutions because enterprise data advice has a structural problem: the people recommending platforms are usually paid by the platforms. Reseller margins and partner tiers are fine businesses, but they are not advice.

So we built the firm we wanted to hire. Small enough that senior practitioners do the work. Independent enough that the recommendation is the product. Experienced enough, across regulated industries and every major platform, that a CIO can put our findings in front of a board.

We work with data leaders across government and the public sector, and in regulated industries: financial services, insurance, telecom, mining, retail, and manufacturing.
